Hear Memorable Readings of their verse by two creative Georgia Poets:

Mildred Greear
Born in Mississippi in time to experience the big depression, she sought and found solace in the beauty of the natural environment and words with which she sought to clothe it. After she married environmentalist Philip Greear and moved to Northeast Georgia, her subject matter revolved around Appalachia, raising children and chickens while teaching in public schools. Upon retirement she began submitting her poetry. Two poetry chapbooks won the Georgia Poetry Society’s Charles Dickson award, making her the only poet to win that award twice. Now 87 and living in Helen, GA, she has published in a variety of regional and national reviews Her collection, Moving Gone Dancing, was released in September, 2007.

Steven Shields
An emerging Atlanta-area poet, Shields’ work has been twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize (2006, 2007). A debut collection, Daimonion Sonata, was published letterpress in 2005 by Birch Brook Press. His poems have appeared in Umbrella, The Penwood Review, The Raintown Review, Candelabrum, Time of Singing, The Lyric and many others. Steven’s poems often explore the mystical or divine. He enjoys experimenting with unconventional forms and metrics. Former university teacher/administrator, he is a past president of the Georgia Poetry Society and a former editor of the GPS poetry anthology, The Reach of Song. See his web site at www.StevenOwenShields.com

The poets will autograph copies of their books of poetry following the reading.
